Beginning of Precious Moments

The world of Precious Moments began in 1974 when creator Sam Butcher started drawing teardrop-eyed figurines as gifts for family and friends. The figurines strive to make the world better by spreading the message of love and faith. They have brought joy and laughter to millions of collectors from all over the world.

In the 1970s Sam Butcher began a new company called Jonathan & David. Sam would draw the Precious Moments images to go on a line of cards and posters where his company would then sell them. Due to the success of these drawings, Sam was approached by the Enesco Corporation to develop a 3D version of the drawings in porcelain.

The company started off doing only 21 figurines. Now, they have expanded to thousands of figurines and to other types of materials, likes towels, wedding cake toppers, stickers and many more. They have produced well over 2,500 figurines.

Four times a year, Precious Moments, INC creates 25 to 40 new figurines. Throughout the year some figurines may be suspended or retired. After a figurine is retired, the mold is broken, it will never be produced again and withdrawn from production.

Due to popularity of Precious Moments franchise, in 1989 the Precious Moments Park opened in Carthage, Missouri. It has welcomed approximately 400,000 visitors every year.

Production Marks

They are special marks that appear on the underside of the base of a figurine. The name of the figurine, along with model number and logo can also be found next to the production marks. These marks help a collector determine the age of a particular figurine.
